Newbie with some questions :)
« on: April 01, 2015, 08:44:32 pm »
Hello guys 'n' gals been watching the forums for a couple of weeks and figured its time to get involved as I'm looking for a mk5 GTI std or Ed30. Can I be cheeky and ask a few opening questions?

1. Does anyone know of someone with VCDS in Manchester / Sale / M33 area?

2. Is it true that if the car is a 07' or later DSG with paddle shift then you don't need to replace the whole steering wheel for a mfsw, you just need the 2 sets of buttons to fit to the standard wheel and then code for mfsw in VCDS? This would imply that the black connector for the buttons is already present on the standard wheel for DSG cars with paddles (I suspect I'm totally wrong about this??)

3.  Can a genuine Ross-Tech VCDS micro-CAN cable be bought 2nd hand off someone and legitimately used by the new owner on his car? Or, must you buy new from Ross-Tech?

I'd really appreciate any advice/feedback

1. I'm based on and around Manchester
2. If you already have paddles then there will be a small controller in the wheel itself. you will require:
the buttons
steering wheel loom(s)
steering controller (in the wheel)
compatible steering column module
appropriate coding to enable the functions in said module

2. you can buy second hand legit vcds cables and use them in your own car.
2005 VW Bora TDI 130 Highline auto. Current mods: 5.5lt washer bottle & black and aluminium A/C knobs & 312mm front brakes and 256mm vented rear brakes.
Next: turborevs SMIC, 20vt pancake pipe and silicone connectors.

VCDS, ODIS, VAS - PC and multi brand diagnostics around Manchester - pm me for help and advice
